Initiation of “Enhancing the Role of Women and Civil Society in the Political Process and Peacebuilding in Yemen Project” in Taiz Governerate

In the presence of representatives from the local authorities and the Social Affairs and Labor Office – Taiz, a series of training courses have been launched as part of the project titled “Enhancing the Role of Women and Civil Society in the Political Process and Peacebuilding in Yemen”. The project is organized by Sheba Youth Foundation for Development in Taiz Governorate, in cooperation with the National Democratic Institute (NDI).

 

Empowering Women through Training: Supporting Leadership and Conflict Management Skills

These courses involve 60 women leaders from political parties and civil society organizations in Taiz. The training aims to strengthen participants’ skills in conflict management and enhance their understanding of advocacy and accountability, with a focus on implementing UN Security Council Resolution 1325 and understanding peace agreements.

 

Opening Session

The opening session was attended by Mr. Qassem Ibrahim, General Director of Public Relations and Media in the governorate’s office, Mr. Fouad Abdullah, Deputy Director of the Social Affairs and Labor Office, Ms. Ola Al-Aghbari, Senior Program Manager at the National Democratic Institute (NDI), and Ms. Wala’a Abdullah, representing Sheba Youth Foundation for Development.

The session was initiated by Ms. Wala’a Abdullah, who praised the efforts of the participants and expressed her strong confidence in their capabilities. She emphasized her belief in their potential to drive change and take leadership roles in the political scene. She highlighted the importance of such initiatives in empowering women and strengthening their pivotal role in community building and active political participation.

During the initiation, Mr. Fouad Abdullah commended the efforts of Sheba Youth Foundation for Development, stressing the importance of women’s representation in the political arena and enhancing their societal roles.

Ms. Ola Al-Aghbari emphasized the importance of building the capacities of women and empowering them to become leaders in the political landscape.

In his speech, Mr. Qassem Ibrahim called for political diversity and greater inclusion of women in the political sphere. He stressed the importance of capacity-building and participation in training programs to achieve meaningful societal progress.

These training courses are considered a significant step toward enhancing the role of women in peacebuilding and increasing their participation in the political process.
